Here you see ravers in front of the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church /vor der Gedächtniskirche
This past Saturday the annual Love Parade took place in Berlin. Here is an article talking about the history and current dilemma surrounding this hippy-style event. It was originally a techno-love parade with millions of dancing, throbbing scantily-clad ravers taking over central Berlin. I remember seeing a video clip about five years ago of some guys and girls on a float. The girls were topless, and the guys were wearing mesh see-through orange pants with no underwear on. And this was on normal television. Well, I missed the parade by one day - I was in Berlin on Friday, and the parade was on Saturday. Oh well, maybe some of you can go with me next year? But bring fashionable appropriate attire...

Sounds like fun, but from the article it sounds like it got sold out to corporate interests.
Which Kaiser Wilhelm does the church memorialize?
Yes, that's the sad point of the article. Originally it was more of a demonstration, now its more marketing. It was the second (and last) Kaiser Wilhelm- the one who abdicated.
Really? I thought the Germans hated him for losing WW I? Did he not finish his years abroad?
The church was built and named during his reign. Yes, it is a love-hate relationship. I think there is a strong sense of sub-surface detest and melancholy that German royalty ultimately did not work out. He spent his "retirement" in the Netherlands - also family members of his - the current Queen has German blood.
You are talking about the current queen of Britain Elizabeth right?
The British and the Queen of Holland as well. I don't know who the secret admirer is. I think it may be a spammer. How do I delete comments?
I found the current guy.
Thanks for the interesting link, Chris. Yes, that's right, he studied in Freiberg in Saxony, not all that far away from Leipzig.
